The Chilbolton Space Monitoring Facility provides a capability within the UK to monitor and characterise satellites and debris in orbit around the Earth. The facility is based at the Chilbolton Observatory because the principal sensors are based on the steerable 25m antenna (which is not used for mission telemetry at present) located there. There is a 12m Antenna at RAL’s Chilton site, which is not currently in use.
