NPL also has extensive experience in the use and verification of active and passive thermal imaging systems for a wide range of practical applications such as medical diagnostics, low temperature quantitative spacecraft testing, in process monitoring (food, materials, etc.), defence applications (combustion) and calibration/validation systems. We can carry out real-time thermal measurements of processes and systems.
Our current capabilities include:
Research thermal imager
- Wavelength of operation nominally 3 µm to 5 µm
- Array 320 x 256
- Speed of capture nominally 150 Hz full frame, up to 20 kHz windowed images
- High resolution, with addition lens providing up to 25 µm resolution
- Temperature resolution 0.01 °C
- Temperature range nominally - 40 °C to +1500 °C (extended range possible)
In field thermal imager- Wavelength of operation nominally 8 µm to 13 µm
- Array 120 x 120
- Speed of capture nominally 9 Hz
- Temperature resolution 0.1 °C
- Temperature range nominally - 40 °C to +1500 °C (extended range possible)
